Dawn RentzDawn Rentz was born in Cudahy, WI and grew up in rural Wisconsin and the suburbs of Atlanta. Rentz now works and resides in Asheville, NC; these three places have given Rentz inspiration for her paintings. Although her travels to different parts of the world add variety to her work, it’s the rolling hills of Wisconsin that hold Dawn’s heart. “I find myself contemplating and revering the power and beauty of nature day after day. In my work, I capture moments in time, not only a place but also the feeling of being in that space.”Rentz attended the Savannah College of Art and Design where she received a BFA in Fibers. A year later, she moved to Asheville and started her own business, KR Designs, creating hand printed home décor fabrics and accessories. During this time, she also began creating a unique style of painting using a variety of her own wood block prints to create individual pieces with a tapestry like feeling. Rentz’s paintings have progressed from the early tapestry pieces to vast landscapes and botanical imagery. She has continued her love of textiles by using patterns within the break-up of the landscape. This use of patterns includes drawing, scratching into the surface and also block printing. “With these patterns I am creating a setting for the ground and earth rooting these botanicals. It is their home and individual space that I am capturing. The images in my paintings are real and fictitious, stripped down to their simplistic forms, creating worlds of their own.” Artwork
